우리가 가지는 반려견에 대한 가장 큰 오류는 반려견에게 선한 도덕성과 높은 지능을 가진 반려견에게 사람과 같은 잣대를 대고 행동을 분석하고 훈련한다는 것이다. 개들에 대한 우리들의 관점을 올바로 가지는 것이 개들의 복지와 삶에 큰 영향을 줄 것이다.
예를들어 강아지가 가구를 부수는 것을 우리는 개들 자신이 잘못된 행동임을 알면서도 고의적이고 악의적으로 부수고 그들이 자신의 잘못을 기억하고 죄책감을 느낀다고 생각함으로써 그들을 처벌하고 있다는 것입니다.
또한 우리는 우리에 대한 개들의 관심을 잘못 해석하고 있습니다. 우리는 개들이 주인을 기쁘게 하려는 욕구를 가지고 있다고 생각합니다.

About the Author
Jean Donaldson is the founder of The Academy for Dog Trainers (www.academyfordogtrainers.com). Her books include Mine!, Fight!, Dogs Are From Neptune, Oh Behave! Dogs From Pavlov to Premack to Pinker, and Train Like a Pro. She holds degrees in Comparative Psychology and Music, and competed successfully in numerous dog sports before transitioning full time to pet dog training in 1990.
The Academy has over five hundred graduates training and counseling in most US states and 25 countries world-wide. Jean lives in the San Francisco Bay area with her dog, Buffy, adopted in 2002. When she is not working, she is an ardent baseball fan and student of evolutionary biology.
